So - Where have I been ?
Well - I went home back to Ireland for a while and had some of the best windsurfing/waves in my life .
The west coast of Ireland came alive on the last week of the vacation . Nothing like catching up with friends and family
and getting the odd session on the water in at the same time .
Then when I got back I got sick for quite a while . The upside was that I lost some weight .
If you ever need to drop some pounds I reccomend getting a stomach flu .
Awesome .
These are from my sifi project .
The bottom one was an experiment with zbrush . Sweet program .
Cheers .

Good to see you back at it, and that you have survived! I love the depth in that top piece, and all those masses of vines and limbs. It's quite a cool little world you have been creating here.
I will have to give ZBrush a go some time, I am assuming you are making a mesh and then painting over the top of that in Photoshop?

Hey there Jared . Cheers for stopping by......
Actually zbrush lets you paint directly on the model , and now thanks to ZApplink you can paint directly on the model with custom brushes of your own so you don't have to use zb brushes for the task .It really brings it a step closer to integration just that much more quickly .
I'm still working on the pipeline and figuring out where I want to use it . Experimentation is half the fun. Hopefully it will improve with each experiment . Still figuring out the ingredients .
It really is a blast to use .

I have no idea what zbrush is - am so, so non-digital because Photoshop makes me practically blind by the time I finish with the piece and my eyes are too tired after - but the results are gorgeous! I love all the details to foliage/bark/trees and other spooky, lighting elements.
The bridge/pathway in the second picture looks like a sleeping or petrified dragon, the way the scales are constructed! Will it wake up and eat the intruders? :)

Simon, thanks for the visit!
Yes I think we probably just passed each other at the airport. I remember Marcos and the guys in LA were saying that you were just gone to Ireland, and I thought you must have been a very brave guy as when we left Kilkenny it was COLD! :)
I'm sure we'll have the chance to meet each other again, and as we said you guys are more than welcome to come over anytime.
Take care!

Hey, (now the system just let me in). Very cinematic and dinamic. Love the atmosphere and colors!

Marcos - thanks for stopping by man .
Sure is a bit more quiet around the halls here without you around .
Hope all is well at DW .
Alessandra - it was cool being at home both in the fun sense and in the weather sense . But because it was windy I had a blast on the waters of the western atlantic Irish shores .
Cheers .
Mac- cheers man . Glad you like it .
Shuku -the top painting was done without zbrush .In the bottom one I used it as a rough test just to see what was possible . It was an experiment of sorts .
Glad you like 'em .
Cheers .

Chris - Thanks . Zbrush is one of those programs that is a lot of fun . It has so many strange qualities that I'm trying to find a place to use it just to enjoy it . I'll keep tinkering with it .
Philip - cheers buddy . Always appreciate you stopping by .
Jackson - Thanks man . I lost a couple of pounds so at least some good came of it .Always fun to go through the ringer once in a while .

Gah! I love both of these. Especially that second one. Something about the color and the composition just affects me. Hey what is Z in here, if I might ask? The main ear bridge element and it's appendages? How much is over-painted after?
Great stuff.
Nov 09, 2007, 18:17:56 SIM-R wrote:
Hey mark - thanks for the kind words and for stopping by. The second one is the painting with z in it . From the characters forwards z was used and the typical brush template is recognisable I think . It was fine for an experiment but now I sorta know ( sorta ) what I am doing , custom brushes will be made .
Also - now that zapplink is released the need for touch up blending will be less .
I had to paint over stuff a bit but I would say overall 80% shapes and colours along with some textures were accomplished in projection master and it went pretty quickly . The learning curve like anything can be testing at times .
And it can crash while rendering so save often .
I gotta tell you though - it's fun!!
